music
I’ve been a professional guitarist, singer/songwriter for over 40 years. I play rock, blues, reggae, alt.country, folk, & dabble on the edge of jazz. I play solo, in bands and duos, particularly with my songwriter wife Brenda Liddiard. Brenda & I have recorded several albums together, and she’s been a great encourager to me over the years.
I’ve recorded 20 albums, written over 200 songs, and worked as producer/session musician on numerous projects, as well as session & sound engineering work for jingles, demos, live gigs etc. As well as acoustic and electric guitars I also play bass, Rowan lute (an instrument built for me by Alan Muggeridge), harmonicas, & dabble with percussion, mandolin and keyboards.
I’ve gigged extensively throughout New Zealand, with occasional forays to Australia and the UK, and performed several times on TV and radio. I occasionally run seminars on guitar, song-writing. stagecraft, and how to make a living outside the music industry.
I’ve became a Jesus follower in the early 1970s and you may spot evidence of this in my lyrics, but there’s a bit of Beatles, Bob Dylan & Led Zep in there too. :)
“One of New Zealand’s finest and most prolific singer/songwriters ... amazing guitar work ... tongue-in-cheek humour, plenty of feeling.”
Wellington Folk Festival
“A sheer delight - songs which always make you smile no matter what your mood - hugely popular on HomeGrown.”
